These are the government and official sources every buyer should bookmark. They're free, they're authoritative, and using them is exactly the kind of educated behavior this site exists to encourage:
- California DRE License Lookup — verify any agent's or broker's license, status, and disciplinary history. (Mine: individual #01015261, corporate #01204213.)
- NMLS Consumer Access — verify any loan originator's license. (Mine: #329971.)
- CalHFA — California Housing Finance Agency — the state's first-time buyer loan and down-payment assistance programs. If affordability is your barrier, start here.
- CFPB: Owning a Home — the federal consumer bureau's plain-English mortgage toolkit, including the official Loan Estimate explainer.
- HUD Housing Counseling — free and low-cost HUD-approved counselors for buyers who want guidance beyond any one professional.
- Santa Barbara County Clerk-Recorder-Assessor — property records, recorded deeds, and assessment information for local buyers.
